Vaccine Recommendations for PA: Wondering about your flu or covid vaccine this year? If we were in normal times, Pennsylvania would use CDC guidelines for vaccine recommendations for the upcoming flu season. Covid season seems any time of the year. Pennsylvania's Board of Pharmacy chose to include non-government agencies to establish recommendations for vaccines. The three medical professional societies that were consulted are the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. GEO Group and CoreCivic are the two largest, private companies managing U.S. correctional and immigration detention facilities through contracts with the government. They are rivals, but together they operate a majority of the private detention centers in the United States, including facilities for immigration detention, minimum security centers, and reentry programs. Their business model is highly profitable, relying on detaining large numbers of people, and they are known to lobby for policies that increase incarceration and influence government contracts, often through donations to political campaigns. GEO manages Moshannon Valley Proccessing Center. Citizens Bank provides funding for these companies for operations and expansion and therefore is a supporter of these companies actions and subpar, inhumane facilities. This is not acceptable. There are protest planned on Saturday, September 13th at 10 AM. RSVP and more Info HERE . Also see below under ICC events.
Text Scams: Don't give donation via a text or even click on them. Political donation text scams use smishing (SMS phishing) to trick you into giving money to fake organizations or installing malware by clicking suspicious links. To avoid them, never click links in unsolicited texts, verify a campaign's authenticity by only donating through its official website, and report scam texts by forwarding them to 7726 (SPAM). Be wary of urgent requests, requests for payment via gift cards or wire transfers, or sites with non-HTTPS links, as these are common red flags.

Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025: For 2025 (October 1, 2024–September 30, 2025), the U.S. Congress passed the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025 (H.R. 1968), enacted on March 11, 2025, to keep the government funded at FY 2024 levels. September 30th is 20 days away. Congress needs to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to provide temporary funding for federal programs and services for the upcoming fiscal year 2026 to avoid a government shutdown. A temporary funding measure (a continuing resolution) is being negotiated to keep government agencies funded through the end of the current fiscal year and to allow Congress more time to pass full-year bills for FY2026. There are two sides to this bill because funding supports Trump admin spending that many do not agree with, but shutting the government down is an economic hardship for many and loosing government funded services such as SNAP, Healthcare or Meals on Wheels to name a few. Many of these programs cannot survive wiithout government funding so it becomes a two edged sword. HERE is a video that describes the timeline leading up to this moment and what is at stake on both sides.
